If you want to reverse or mirror an image, you can easily flip an image in Google Docs using built-in tools. It only takes a few clicks once you know where the option is.
Flip an image using the Drawing tool
This is the most reliable way to flip images in Google Docs:
- Open your document
- Click on Insert in the top menu
- Select Drawing → New
- Click on the Image icon and upload your image
- Select the image inside the drawing box
- Click on Actions → Rotate
- Choose:
- Flip horizontally (mirror left ↔ right)
- Flip vertically (upside down)
- Click Save and Close
Your flipped image will now appear in the document.
Edit or adjust the flipped image
If you need to make changes:
- Select Edit
- Go back to Actions → Rotate to adjust again
Why use the Drawing tool?
- Google Docs doesn’t offer a direct “flip” option in the main image toolbar
- The Drawing tool gives you more control over image orientation
Quick tip
If you only need basic edits (like resizing or cropping), you can use the regular image toolbar. But for flipping, the Drawing method works best.
